Go to your favorite music sampling venue and grab:
(NERD Feat. Lee Harvey) - Lapdance (Paul Oakenfold SwordFish Mix).mp3
It's track 9 on the Swordfish soundtrack.
I really like the mixing of it. It's really tight. NERD is actually the Neptunes who do a lot of mixes. You've probably heard Ludacris - Southern Hospitality. That's them. They also worked on Britney Spears - I'm a Slave for You and Boys. Their original mix of it is decent, but with Oakenfold's touch it's all the better.
My only complaint is I don't like the chick's voice. She sounds like a $2 ghetto whore. The girl from Trip Like I Do would have made a MUCH better choice.
Where the heck is fab1? He needs to find me some stuff like this.

So far I have yet to hear anything with Paul Oakenfold's name attached to it that was disappointing.

The Neptunes PRODUCED Ludacris' 'Southern Hospitality' (and a host of other things. Along with Timbaland, the Neptunes are the hipster Producers du jour in the hip hop world) in fact, that's all the Neptunes are - Producers. N.E.R.D stands for "No one ever really dies" and that is the acronym the neptunes adopted as their title for all works that feature them as artists rather than producers. Oakenfold is a DJ. I only point this out because to compare Oakenfold's remixing of something to the Neptunes full out producing a song is like talking about a band covering a song vs. Being the band that wrote the original. (That's not to say that just because you wrote a song you must also have performed it the best, but there's a total difference of the kind of creativity involved. Oakenfold is not on the level that the Neptunes are.)
BTW, the girl from "Trip Like I do" is sexy as hell. She sounds like about 16 different kinds of semi-legal fun.

Interesting. I have a naive question. What exactly is the role of a producer? I always thought they were the people that just gave the direction of a project a little nudge and maybe have minor input on mixing. Something like "Yeah man, that's good shit. Work with that" or "Turn up the voice track a little more and fade here."
Basically I didn't think they were truly musicians, just people with a good year for what sounds good. It sounds like you're saying they do a lot of the musical arrangements though.

Depends on the Artist really. Some need help with song writing, some (producers) keep labels away, they really only do what needs to be done.

Who is she, anyway? I want more of her. My 2 minute search didn't turn up anything on her. I think this is a job for Yoshi...

I did hit upon a link for Easy Lube Jobs (http://missclick.chickclick.com/articles/33634p1.html)
neptunes are the shit.
paul oakenfold is a faggot.
that faggot should not be allowed to touch anything by the neptunes, because he will turn it to shit. he is a talentless dj, and a talentless "producer" (he doesnt even engineer his own records).
you are dumb.

Oakenfold ISN'T a producer, and engineering is the part of the record that has to do with placing microphones, etc so of course Oakenfold doesn't engineer his own records (you might have to go back to jimmy page to find an artist who really took part in engineering their own records). I happen to think that 90% of DJs are talentless hacks, and the remaining few who are good are often geniuses. DJ'ing is to music what collage is to visual art. If you're good at it, it warrants just as much merit as any other "art." I don't like oakenfold, but he's not BAD at what he does. Producer is a funny relationship to have, some producers are really hands-off, others have a really large input on songwriting, arrangement, and have a big hand in the way a recording ends up sounding. In hip-hop though, producing takes on a much larger role than in most other types of music because often the producers will be the ones creating the beats (timbaland and neptunes for example) and in general creating the song around what the MC does. (this used to be different when rap/hip-hop was a DJ and an MC doing their thing. Today, you need sequencing, mixing and a host of other things that require studio savvy beyond that of what a typical DJ does.) Even in pop music, a producer may be the one who suggests insrumentations, trying the song at a different tempo, etc.
its pretty cool how you can throw in a few key words, and try to sound knowledgeable. too bad you are dumb, and know nothing.

That's it mofo. s8n. Meet me at the O some day. I wanna either shake your hand or kick your fucking ass. Take your pick.
Actually, Oakenfold has done quite a few productions himself under various aliases and in collaboration with other trance/prog house producers. Amongst the best ones are the remake of Robert Miles' Children (look out for the "Tilt's Courtyard Mix" ['Tilt' being one of his aliases]) with a pianobreak that can make a grown man cry.), and some of you might remember the massive tune by Olive - You're Not Alone; he was co-producing it together with James Osborne.
He has also got his own recordcompany - Perfecto Records - and has great success in co-producing and working on the successfull series Global Underground which features live recordings from many a successfull DJ (the big names, only).
Although you argue whether he is the worlds best DJ or not, his reputation as one of the illest is deserved. It takes more to being a DJ than the ability to beat mix, and Oaky does more than that - believe me. I myself am not a fan for the simple reason that I'm not into his stylez, but still he has my deepest respect simply because I've checked out alot of his work (mixing for the most; his productions and remixing isn't all that imho).
You can catch Oakenfold in the states now as he is doing his US tour @ the moment.
If you like his shit you better search for the Global Underground series, anything by Tilt, Paul van Dyk, Sasha, Bedrock and of course John Digweed.

<----- Stands corrected. I wasn't aware that he was producing on the Global Underground series, I thought he just selected the DJs... All I know is DJ Shadow farts with more skill than Oakenfold does anything...
ok, fag1, you are wrong. he sucks at DJing. his "productions" (commands to a real engineer) are shitty and gay. dont be so stupid. trance is gay. your mom is a whore. and thats about it.
I love you too, s8n.
..and yeah, trance is gay.
