Well, considering that singers sign without an accent (http://www.chasermag.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000566) and I don't always care enough to find out anything about a band, how about you tell us what bands are big and we'll tell you if we've heard of them.

Russell Crowe's band (I think it's 60 Foot Odd Grunts) is getting a lot of coverage where I live. But only because it's Russ.

Exactly. And it's not like it's going to even stick around.

We all know how "far" Keanu Reeves band went, Dogstar.

Dog who?

Hmm... Only Australians who did anything that made a blip on the US charts that I can think of:

Natalie Imbruglia
Silverchair
Kylie Minogue (she's old, but I'd still get up in her guts)
Men at Work (I want a vegemite sandwich)

That's about it. I think it's time we make jokes about Paul Hogan.

Wait... I can't forget The Divinyls...

"I Touch Myself" is classic.

Also, before I hear anything about gold medals won in the Olympics and swimming. The Australians don't seem to realize that Americans actually don't watch the Olympics anymore. The Sydney games pretty much bottomed out in all-time ratings.

Moreover, I'm very happy that Australia has taken over the title of fattest nation.

They did? Sweet. Now I'm not so embarassed to say I'm from the 'States.

Indeed. In sheer numbers, they aren't as fat (compare 280 million to 17 million people), but in percentage, they've become fatter than the US of A.

I was a huge INXS fan in the 80s... I hated Rick Springfield, because of his song about my girl, although I kinda like it now =)

Air Supply is easily the worst band ever.

Icehouse rocks. Great songs, esp No Promises.

Baby Animals were good at the time, although they got dated fast.

And they're from NZ originally, but Crowded House, Split Enz and the Finn brothers are simply the best.

Its a virtual flubber-fest in Australia. I can't walk down the street without being crushed by a obese woman wearing a parachute because no clothes fit her....

Allright its not THAT bad. FuckOff.

At least it's easy to look thinner in Australia: just stand next to someone fatter than you.

Personally I'm down to around 110 kilograms from 122 a few months ago.

Don't ask what that is in pounds. You Americans need to get with the metric program :)

As for Australian bands I'll just point out that Russell Crowe's band is *30* Odd Foot of Grunts.

Ouch indeed. I am only 17 but I weigh 137 pounds after 3 full meals a day...

I've been working out and running a hell of a lot lately so I lost about 4 pounds already.

I had no idea some of those bands were Australian. INXS kicked ass. Split Enz I like "I Got You" and that's about it. Crowded House "Don't Dream It's Over" and that's it for them. Lots of one hit wonders from over there. Or maybe it's just because it was the 80's and we did that here too. Silverchair was decent.

137 pounds? What the fuck are you, 3 feet tall? Jesus. I hardly eat a thing and I'm still over 180 on most days. I can honestly say I don't know anyone of the male gender who weighs as little as you do. That's frightening. Go eat! Go on, shoo!

Cheers,
MeK - healthy.

No, they had a lot of smaller hits, and a lot of really great songs. In fact, of all the musicians I know (and that's a lot), Crowded House would be the concencus faovrite band, no shit. Those guys were just brilliant.

MeK for your information, by working out a lot and running around 7-10 miles a day, let me tell you that whatever you put in your body is processed rather instantly and therefore it's almost impossible to gain weight while maintaining a healthy, proportioned diet.

There's a ton of food that you just won't eat before running so that eliminates most that would put on any sort of weight on you. Inbetween running I eat plenty and all, it's just as I said, once I start running or lifting, I burn it off.

I'm 5 foot 8 inches.

Mek's exercise consists of wrestling with the local prostitutes so his misunderstanding or certain concepts can be forgiven.

What?! You all have forgotten about the greatest rock band in history, and they are in fact from Oz!

AC/DC!!

They formed in Sydney, Australia in 1973 . . . and they released their debut album "High Voltage" in 1976. The Australian people are completely obsessed with AC/DC.

Practically every store I went to in Oz had TONS of books about AC/DC.

On another note, Chopper is also an incredibly fascinating Australian phenomenon. Perhaps Buddha or Yoshi could talk about this guy . . . heck, perhaps a whole thread should be devoted to him, considering how amazing his life has been thus far.

what's the deal with all these posts about non-American music? Is this the harbinger of some kind of musical invasion?

Edit: if this means that we're letting Hasselhoff back in the country, someone please tell me, so I can start packing.

If we're taking Hasselhoff back, Canada has to take Celine Tampon back as well.

I say that both our North American nations hold them as "disturbers of the peace" and thus condemn to a lifetime in prision. Of course, because that would keep them in North America, they will serve it in Germany where they are both loved.

On a side note, we are going to make sure the German Chancellor forces Celine into the wonderful world of scat... from the rectum of her dirty old man-husband.
